NCFL, Toyota recognized in GAO report

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released a report to a U.S. Senate subcommittee included NCFL’s Toyota Family Literacy Program.

The report on English language learning notes that TFLP operates in 75 locations across the country and has developed family literacy programs that focus specifically on English language learners, with support from Toyota and the National Center for Family Literacy.

Employment opportunity at NCFL

NCFL has an exciting opportunity for an ESL professional who has experience in Early Childhood Education!

Better World Books, NCFL create national award for libraries

Another exciting announcement this week-- NCFL will distribute $30,000 in funding to libraries that are pioneering programs to families through the Libraries and Families Award. Funding for the program will come from Better World Books’ Libraries Discards & Donations program, a free service that helps libraries manage their unwanted books.

Fast Break to Reading

NCFL is excited to announce that we are the national nonprofit partner selected for the Fast Break to Reading program sponsored by Pitney Bowes and the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA)! The initiative encourages young students to read throughout the summer and track their minutes at http://www.wnba.com/fbtr/. The goal is for youth to collectively reach one million minutes of reading time --- and we’re more than halfway there!

Peter Reynolds a finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year

Peter Reynolds lit up the sky (literally!) at this year's NCFL Conference, and we are excited to announce his star continues to rise. Peter is one of five finalists for Entrepreneur Magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year!

Peter led us on a journey with his 21st Century Learners' Constellation at the Tech Savvy Banquet. With the help of Greg Forbes Siegman, Peter helped each of us find what inspires us. He is using that same creative talent through his work at Fable Vision, a company he founded with his twin brother, Paul.

CNN to feature NCFL corporate partner

One of our corporate partners, Better World Books, will be featured this weekend on CNN and CNN Headline News. I hope you have the opportunity to check it out.

It is a well-deserved recognition for a dynamic social enterprise that is the leader in converting donated books into funding to support literacy. Each consumer who sees the story will also learn about the important cause of family literacy since BWB has been a partner of NCFL’s since 2005.

Calling All Readers

The Harlequin 100,000 Book Challenge continues, with over 50,000 books already donated to Family and Child Education (FACE) programs across the country! And there’s still time for you to join in this great campaign! These books have been an invaluable tool in engaging adult readers in family literacy programs. Here’s a story from a teacher in one of the FACE programs that has already received books:
